The Golden Nugget Poker RoomThe historic golden nugget recently received a $100 million makeover for its 60th birthday, including a luxurious new poker room. Ten intimate tables allow players to get dealt in 24/7 in limit and no-limit hold'em games in a cozy country club atmosphere featuring dark wood and crushed velvet seating and plasma televisions. "The Golden Nugget has always been known for exceeding customer expectations and we have carried that philosophy into our new sophisticated poker room," said David Tuttle, director of casino operations. "Our room will please all players, regardless of their level of expertise." The poker room, which was relocated from the casino floor to the newly remodeled semi-enclosed room, offers daily no-limit hold'em tournaments with a $65 buy-in plus one optional $40 rebuy. Limit hold'em is offered in $2-$4, $3-$6, $4-$8 and $6-$12 limits, and no-limit hold'em is offered with $1-$2 blinds. Players receive a $10 dinner comp for four hours of play. Worried about when to fold'em? Not sure if you are holding big slick, pocket rockets or the nuts? Don't fret; the Golden Nugget has you covered by offering free daily hold'em lessons to brush up on your poker lingo and game. Instruction, directed at beginners, is given by poker-room dealers who share information and tips during 30-minute lessons. Outside the plush atmosphere of the poker room, the renovated 38,000-square-foot casino offers more than 1,300 of the most popular slot and video poker machines and more than 51 table games, including blackjack, roulette, craps, mini-baccarat, Caribbean stud, Let It Ride, Pai Gow and three-card poker. High-limit slot players can enjoy the new high-limit slot salon that features VIP perks such as a plush lounge, private cashier and a pair of $500 slot machines. Last year, Houston-based Landry's Restaurants spend $325 million to buy the Golden Nugget and it's sister resort in Laughlin, Nevada. In addition to the new casino and poker room, a revamped lobby and spa and salon opened in August 2006. Other recent additions include the award-winning Vic and Anthony's Steakhouse, the casual Asian restaurant Lillie's Noodle House and an expanded buffet area. The Nugget's new signature pool is surrounded by a 30-foot-deep aquarium filled with coral, sharks and other undersea creatures. A clear wall separates its waters from the adjacent swimming pool, giving guests the opportunity to safely get up close and personal with Jaws. After a few games of poker, catching rays and swimming with the sharks at the pool and having dinner, guests can enjoy a variety of entertainment in the newly designed 600-seat intimate theater featuring a state-of-the-art sound system. "For nearly 60 years, the Golden Nugget has led the way in innovation and design, and we strive to continue to meet and exceed the expectations of our guests," said Tuttle. "This renovation is important to the revitalization of the Las Vegas downtown community as well as our employees and many loyal guests." |
